What a domain transfer costs
The transfer fee is the price of one year on that extension, and that year is added on top of the time you already have. There is no separate transfer charge, no setup fee, and no fee if you later move the domain away from us.

Prices come straight from our billing system, so this table matches checkout. The 60-day rule is set by the registry: a domain that was registered, transferred or had its registrant changed within the last 60 days cannot move yet. The EPP authorisation code comes from your current registrar and is the only thing we need from them.
Leaving later costs nothing. If you ever want to move a domain away from Ahosting, unlock it in the client area, request the EPP code and we release it. There is no transfer-away fee and no waiting period beyond the registry's own 60-day lock after a transfer or registration.

Approve the email
The registry emails the domain’s administrative contact. Approving it is what makes the transfer move; ignoring it is the single most common reason one stalls.

Typically five to seven days, set by the losing registrar’s release process rather than by us. Approving quickly at step three is what shortens it.

registration, not where the domain points. As long as the DNS records stay as they are, nothing
changes for visitors, and we copy your existing records across before the switch.

The transfer lock is on by default at most registrars. Turn it off in their control panel first, or the request is rejected before it reaches us.
Contact email out of date
The approval goes to the administrative contact on the WHOIS record. If that mailbox is dead, fix it at the old registrar before starting.
Expired or in redemption
A domain past its expiry has to be renewed where it is before it can move. Recovering one from redemption costs far more than renewing on time.

No. Ahosting does not charge a transfer-away fee. Unlock the domain in the client area, request the EPP authorisation code and we release it to you. The only restriction is the registry’s own rule that a domain cannot move within 60 days of being registered or transferred. Whether the receiving registrar charges for the incoming transfer is up to them; most, like us, charge a year of registration.

From your current registrar, who is obliged to release it to you. It is usually under domain settings, sometimes emailed to the administrative contact instead of shown on screen. We have written up where to find it at the common registrars.
The fee is not lost: a rejected transfer stays as credit on your account and we will tell you which of the four blockers above caused it. Fix that, and the transfer can be restarted.
