Two paths, different resource models

Choose the environment your store needs

WooStart is shared WooCommerce hosting with published CloudLinux ceilings. WooPower is a VPS with dedicated virtual resources and system-level control.

Prices update with the selected term. WooPower is a VPS and is not sold on a 36-month term.

These are CloudLinux LVE ceilings that apply to the account as a whole, not reserved hardware. Entry processes are the account's ceiling for simultaneous PHP execution: a limit, not a reservation. Cached pages are served without consuming one. PHP memory is the highest value you may select rather than the default. Unmetered traffic is subject to fair use under our Resource Abuse Policy.

Introductory prices use the stated term and the full term total is due at checkout. Application quality, extensions, database behavior and external services also affect store performance.

Plan around the workload

Choose from evidence, not store labels

Catalog size alone does not determine the right plan. Dynamic requests, extensions, imports and scheduled work usually matter more than product count.

Choose WooStartNormal trading fits within the published shared CPU, memory, process and I/O ceilings. Suits a new, smaller or growing store with moderate dynamic demand.
Choose WooPowerSustained concurrent checkout, large imports, busy account areas or custom background workers need dedicated virtual resources and root access.
Move to dedicatedThe store requires isolated physical hardware, or it consistently outgrows the VPS path.
Signals to watchRepeated CPU, memory, entry-process, I/O or IOPS faults; slow cart and checkout after application tuning; Action Scheduler queues competing with shoppers.

Built for every stage

From your first product to an established catalog

Physical goods, digital downloads, subscriptions or services: the platform is the same, and WooCommerce is pre-installed with WordPress so you can add products instead of configuring a server.

Your first store

WordPress and the WooCommerce plugin are pre-installed, so there is no technical setup before you can add products and start selling.

Digital downloads

Sell ebooks, software, courses or templates. WooCommerce handles secure file delivery, licence keys and download limits without extra hosting configuration. Digital product guide.

Subscriptions and memberships

Recurring billing, member access and subscription boxes generate more logged-in, uncacheable traffic. Plan capacity for that rather than for catalog size.

Sales and traffic spikes

Black Friday, flash sales and viral traffic hit catalog pages hardest, and those are cache-eligible. Move to WooPower when the uncached checkout path is the bottleneck. Prepare for a sales peak.

Payments and shipping

Add payment gateways, shipping methods and the built-in analytics from one dashboard. Gateway callbacks and scheduled jobs are part of the workload we size for.

Measured on our own stack

What actually decides WooCommerce response time

Not the badge on the web server. Store speed is decided by three things: which pages you are allowed to cache, which pages must never be cached, and whether PHP stops recompiling your store on every request. We measured all three on our own platform, got one of them wrong the first time, and republished.

The lever that actually moved 6.9x

Faster empty-cart response after enabling PHP opcode caching, with nothing else changed. It mattered far more than the choice of web server, and it is the one thing a store owner never has to set up here: OPcache ships enabled and tuned on every WooStart account.

Where caching does its job 12–13 ms

Cache-eligible home and product pages returned in 12 to 13 ms on both stacks we tested. On cacheable pages there is no meaningful difference to sell you, so we do not claim one. What matters is that the cache rules are correct.

What must never be cached Cart, checkout, account

Personalised responses stay outside full-page cache or customers see each other’s baskets. We verify the no-cache state route by route rather than assuming the plugin got it right, which is the failure mode we see most often on stores that arrive from elsewhere.

Withdrawn

Our first version of this study reported that LiteSpeed cut cart and checkout latency by 55 to 64 percent. It did not survive re-measurement: the Apache test node simply had no OPcache installed. We took the flattering number down and published the correction with the full tables, because a benchmark you cannot check is marketing, not evidence.

Read the full WooCommerce test and methodology

The two test nodes are not hardware-identical, so absolute latencies describe those environments rather than the web servers in isolation. Methodology, the corrected tables and the reason the earlier figures were withdrawn are all documented in the study. Application quality, extensions, database behaviour and external services also affect store performance.

The operating stack

Performance needs more than a fast web server

The useful chain combines the web server, PHP execution, application-aware caching, account boundaries and a healthy database. Weakness in any one of them shows up at checkout.

01

LiteSpeed + LSAPI

Efficient web and PHP request handling for the shared platform.

02

LSCache rules

Cache eligible pages while excluding cart, checkout and customer sessions.

03

CloudLinux boundaries

CPU, memory, process and I/O ceilings reduce noisy-neighbour impact.

04

PHP OPcache

Reuse compiled PHP bytecode instead of rebuilding it on every request. Our own measurement shows this is the single largest factor.

05

Database health

SSD storage keeps product-catalog queries and order lookups fast; scheduled jobs stay under observation.

06

Application quality

The theme, extensions and integrations remain part of store performance and are not something hosting can fix.

On page speed and rankings Hosting response time affects page experience, but Core Web Vitals also depend on the theme, scripts, images and the visitor’s device. Measure real users rather than assuming a server change guarantees higher rankings.

Orders and customer data

What protects the store, and what it does not cover

A store holds payment records, customer addresses and order history. These controls are included with every WooCommerce plan.

Account isolation

Every store runs inside a CloudLinux and CageFS boundary, so unrelated accounts on the same server cannot read your order files or customer data.

Encrypted checkout

A free SSL certificate covers the store so card and address entry is encrypted in transit. Encryption is one requirement of PCI compliance, not the whole of it.

Daily offsite backups

Products, orders and customer records are captured daily and held off the server, with on-demand backups before risky changes. Restore guide.

Updates and scanning

Automatic updates and a vulnerability scanner reduce the window in which a known plugin flaw stays exploitable. Store security practices.

Firewall and DDoS filtering

Network-level filtering removes a share of unwanted traffic before it reaches your PHP workers and consumes account resources.

99.9% uptime SLA

An availability commitment backed by redundant fibre carriers and enterprise hardware in our Detroit, Michigan facility. See the datacenter.

Move with transaction awareness

A store migration is more than a file copy

Orders, accounts, gateway callbacks, scheduled tasks and cache exclusions all need checking before DNS changes, because a missed callback is a missed payment.

WooCommerce is a free, open-source plugin for WordPress that turns a site into an online store. It handles products, inventory, shipping, payments, taxes and orders. On these plans WordPress and WooCommerce are pre-installed, so you can start adding products immediately.

The core plugin is free to download and use. A working store usually also needs hosting, a domain and an SSL certificate, all of which are included here, and many merchants additionally buy a premium theme or paid extensions for advanced features.

WooStart is cPanel shared hosting with published CloudLinux account ceilings. WooPower is a VPS with 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 75 GB SSD storage, root access and CloudPanel. See the full comparison.

No. Cart, checkout and customer-account responses are personalised and must stay outside shared full-page cache, or one shopper could be served another shopper’s page. Eligible catalog and content pages can still use LSCache. Why carts break with caching.

Physical goods, digital downloads such as ebooks, software, courses and templates, subscriptions and memberships, bookings and services. WooCommerce handles secure file delivery, licence keys and download limits for digital products.

Yes, migration assistance is included. Store complexity, integrations, scheduled jobs and the source platform determine the scope and cutover plan. Payment gateway callbacks and scheduled tasks are checked before DNS is changed. See the migration guide.

Move up when monitoring shows sustained CPU, memory, process or I/O pressure, when cart and checkout stay slow after the application itself has been tuned, or when imports, scheduled jobs and custom services need dedicated virtual resources.

Yes. WooStart includes a free SSL certificate, daily offsite backups and an account-level dedicated IP that is not shared with unrelated hosting accounts. WooPower includes its own VPS IP and the services shown in its current order configuration.

Hosting supplies part of the picture: encrypted transport through SSL, account isolation and a maintained platform. PCI compliance also depends on how you handle card data, which payment gateway you use and your own business processes, so it is not something a hosting plan alone can grant.

Hosting response time affects page experience, and page speed is a ranking signal. But Core Web Vitals also depend on your theme, scripts, images and the visitor’s device. Measure real users rather than assuming a server change guarantees higher rankings.

Catalog and content pages are cache-eligible and absorb most spike traffic cheaply. Cart and checkout stay dynamic by design, so those are the paths that consume account resources during a flash sale. That is the signal to consider WooPower.

WooCommerce supports PayPal, Stripe, direct bank transfer and cash on delivery out of the box, and further gateways are available as extensions. Gateway callbacks are one of the things we verify during a migration, because a missed callback is a missed payment. See how to configure gateways.

Yes. Choose any WooCommerce-compatible theme and adjust colours, fonts and layout through the WordPress Customizer. Deeper changes may need CSS knowledge or a developer. Bear in mind that the theme and its scripts are part of how fast the store feels, not just the server.

Enable stock management in the product settings, set quantities and low-stock notifications, and WooCommerce updates stock automatically as orders are placed. See the inventory guide.

Yes. Tax rates are configured for your own location and the places you sell to, and you can choose whether prices include or exclude tax. Extensions are available for automated rates and shipping labels. Tax settings and shipping zones.

Your store does not share its web IP address with unrelated customer accounts, which reduces exposure to shared-IP reputation problems caused by spam, malware or abuse on a neighbouring site. It is an account-level web IP, not a separate outbound email IP.

The displayed starting price is a monthly equivalent for the selected term, and the full term total is charged at checkout. Renewal pricing is shown on each plan card. WooPower is a VPS and is sold on monthly, 12-month or 24-month terms. Shared plans carry a one-time setup fee on the monthly term only. Review the cart summary before payment.
